This is somewhat off-topic, but if you know any wargamers or activists, please send them along to Alex's new blog. He's starting a themed Warmachine army, dedicated to raising awareness about water issues. Alex's starting point is to get as many people as possible in touch with the problems, since most Americans take water for granted.
The next point is to paint a water-themed army, since Wargaming nerds are contractually oblligated to talk about their rationales for painting their armies. That gets the word out at conventions. Finally, all profits made from winning tournaments and selling the army at the end of the circuit go to the charity.
Most of us aren't heavily into wargaming, but do check out his blog for the charity info. Water shortages, pure drinking water, and management of resources are enormous problems. Plus, it's a excellent way to one-up those petitioners on the street corner: show them you're involved in a bigger problem! :)

Thanks!
I want to echo what Mairead said. The real drive at what I'm trying to do is make people aware of different issues.
But the best is seeing people get involved. While I'm focusing right now on water scarcity/quality, anyone can join any cause and use the creative minds to figure a way to help raise awareness.
